Subtypes of Type 9: The Mediating Peacekeeper
SELF-PRESERVATION 9: APPETITE
This type of 9 focuses on routines and physical comforts as a way of not having to fully show up in being connected to themselves, their feelings, desires, or power. They seek out situations where they won’t be troubled by other’s expectations and influence. They move at their own pace and can be extremely stubborn or resistant to demands they disagree with. If their lifestyle is disrupted they find it extremely difficult and challenging, as they use routines to help them forget about themselves. They find peace in engaging in their familiar acitivies rather than doing the harder internal work such as engaging with their own desires and needs. This type is more practical, patient, and concrete focusing on every day things rather than abstract ideas.
SOCIAL 9: PARTICIPATION (the countertype)
Social 9s will merge with the group to find belonging and to be at peace within their communities. They have the opposite reaction to the vice of sloth by engaging in higher levels of activity and putting the needs of the group above their own. They often become workaholics for the benefit of the group. They often do this to find a sense of belonging even though they never truly feel like they fit within th group. They will also connect with groups and others and as a way of avoiding engaging with their own personal desires and inner life. They are typically fun-loving and sociable people who are task oriented and actively involved with others.
ONE-TO-ONE/SEXUAL 9: FUSION
This type of 9 will fuse or merge with the important people in their lives as a way of not having to show up for their own desires and needs. Because if can feel difficult to determine their own priorities or stand on their own, they will often take on the ideas and opinions of those around them. They tend to lose themselves in others which can create an internal anxiety at the loss of autonomy and the desire to feel merged with another. These 9’s tend to be kind, gentle, and less assertive. They often take in the world with awe and wonder.
